The UK Government has confirmed that the UK-CBAM is scheduled to come into effect from the 1st of January 2027.
The scheme forms part of the UK’s wider environmental strategy and is intended to align imported carbon-intensive goods with the carbon costs already faced by UK manufacturers under the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS).
At Staytite we are committed to keeping our customers and supply chain partners informed about important regulatory developments that may impact our industry and the products we supply.
That's why we are busy preparing for the UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (UK-CBAM) update.
What is UK-CBAM?
UK-CBAM is a new carbon pricing mechanism that will apply to certain imported goods, including categories such as:
- Iron and steel products
- Aluminium products
- Other carbon-intensive materials and components
Under the new regulations, UK importers will be required to:
- Monitor and report embedded carbon emissions in imported products
- Maintain emissions and compliance records
- Submit CBAM reporting to HMRC
- Pay CBAM-related carbon charges
The carbon charge will be linked to the emissions associated with the manufacture of imported goods and aligned with the UK carbon pricing framework.
Calculating CBAM Liability:
Impact on Product Pricing
As a distributor and importer of products sourced globally, Staytite will be directly affected by these new obligations. As a result, customers may see price increases on certain product categories due to CBAM-related import charges.
To ensure transparency, any applicable CBAM-related costs may be shown separately on invoices once the scheme is implemented.
Working Closely with Our Supply Chain
To prepare for the introduction of UK CBAM, we are already actively engaging with our overseas manufacturers and supply partners regarding emissions reporting requirements.
Under the new framework, importers will be required to have accurate carbon emissions data for applicable products. We are currently working with suppliers to ensure the necessary systems, reporting processes, and compliance measures are in place well ahead of implementation.
Our Commitment
Staytite fully supports responsible environmental practices and compliance with evolving UK regulations.
We are committed to:
- Maintaining transparency with our customers
- Supporting suppliers through the transition
- Ensuring regulatory compliance across our supply chain
- Minimising disruption wherever possible
We will continue to monitor UK Government guidance and provide further updates as more detailed CBAM information becomes available.
